Sometimes it can be difficult to wait the months it takes to build a custom guitar after you have selected the woods and been imagining what it will look like, but the result is always so worth the wait! This instrument is one of the most unique guitars we have ever had built and we are so excited to finally be able to show it off!
Back in August of 2018 we took a trip to Bend, Oregon to tour the Breedlove Guitar factory and raid their wood vault to select some raw wood sets to use in a custom build. They had a super exciting and unique stash of Sinker Redwood that had been salvaged out of the ocean. The salt water gave the wood a unique color; rather than the deep red-brown color that sinker redwood is known for, it has a rich grey-brown color. When we saw this super special wood was available, we knew we had to build a guitar with it to take advantage of the unique look and the outstanding tone sinker redwood is known for.
We paired the incredible Ocean Sinker Redwood with a stunning figured walnut back and sides, a powerhouse combo for a seriously amazing tone! This combo has long been regarded as the prime combination for fingerstyle players. Utilizing this wood pairing with the incredible Concerto body enables this instrument to be very responsive to light fingerstyle as well as heavy strumming with very complex overtones present at all volumes.
For the other appointments on this guitar we selected to use a walnut neck that would really match the back of this instrument well and had it finished with a semi-gloss finish to make it easy for players to move up and down the neck while playing. We also opted for all inlays to be done in black mother of pearl to match the deep, rich color of the Ocean Sinker Redwood top. For the binding on this instrument, we selected ebony. To keep with the dark colors we had selected for the instrument we picked a unique black chrome set of Gotoh tuning machines.
